Pearl Fractional

Pearl Fractional is the fractional version of the ablative laser, used for deeper problems than Pearl — more pronounced pitted scars and other scarring. The clinic highlights the difference from conventional CO2 fractional: 「짧은 다운타임, 적은 통증」 — shorter downtime, less pain.

Fractional versus full resurfacing

Full resurfacing (as with Pearl) removes the entire epidermal layer of the treated area — a larger improvement, but longer recovery and relatively higher risk.

Fractional treatment creates many microscopic treatment columns, leaving intact skin between them. That intact tissue acts as bridges for repair, so healing is markedly faster. The trade-off is that a single session improves less than full resurfacing, so several sessions are usually needed.

Fractional treatment can also go deeper. Because surrounding tissue supports healing, energy can be sent further into the dermis — which is what deep pitted scars require, since a pit is a loss of dermal collagen and surface treatment achieves little.

Compared with classic CO2 fractional, the 2790 nm wavelength keeps thermal damage more contained, which is the technical basis for the clinic's "shorter downtime". But "shorter" is relative — it still has a definite recovery period.

Typically suited to

  • Deeper depressed scars (boxcar and rolling types)
  • Scars from injury or surgery
  • Enlarged pores with lax texture
  • A plateau reached with superficial treatments
  • Being able to commit to several sessions with recovery time

Ice-pick scars (narrow and deep) usually respond only modestly to fractional laser alone and may need other methods, as assessed by the doctor.

Course and expectations

Scar treatment needs realistic expectations: it improves, it doesn't erase. Multiple sessions are usually required, spaced a month or more apart, and the degree of improvement varies widely with scar type, depth and individual healing.

Collagen rebuilding is slow; the final result is usually clear only months after the course ends. Feeling that "nothing has changed" partway through is common and relates to how the treatment works.

Any promise to "remove pitted scars in one session" deserves scepticism.

Procedure and recovery

Topical anaesthetic is usually applied. Sensation is heat and pricking, varying with energy and depth.

Afterwards there is clear redness, swelling and heat, usually with fine dot-like crusts that fall off within days — again, do not remove them yourself.

Recovery is generally shorter than full resurfacing but still takes days to a week, followed by lingering redness that fades gradually.

During recovery: strict sun protection, extra moisturising, no irritating actives, no heat.

Precautions

  • A history of recurrent cold sores must be disclosed
  • Recent oral isotretinoin requires a sufficient interval
  • Keloid tendency needs prior assessment
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active inflammatory acne is usually controlled first
  • Postpone if recently sun-exposed or sunburnt
  • Follow aftercare instructions, no picking, strict sun protection

Scar treatment is a long, slow process. The doctor's experience and the follow-up arrangements deserve more attention than the device model.

Pricing

Held as a placeholder in this phase. The clinic's website publishes promotional package prices, which are time-sensitive; we recommend using the statutory non-covered fee schedule (비급여 의료 수가표) in a later phase, presented as a crawlable HTML table. Final pricing is confirmed at consultation.
